Research Paper
Today I was doing some research for my paper and found that by starting late on your research can really put you in a crunch. I did see that it is very helpful to start on the research early and get all the information together that you will need for your paper. By having this research information and your tools that you will use should help with everything being in order and with the challenging parts of your research.

uh-oh, Lisa, did you get a late start on research? Do you have any suggestions how I can impress this fact on students from day one? Should I demand more definite reports on their research beginning in Unit 2 as soon as students choose a topic. This is a reoccurring problem. I have known students to wait until week 6 to do any serious research. Then they want an extension on their draft. I decided I am not giving extensions this term!
ReplyDeleteDo employers give extensions on projects? I feel like I would be doing students a disservice if I let them slide. What do you think?
Professor,
ReplyDeleteYes I did get a late start but only because I wasn't feeling well. I will say that if the students had like a bit more time to do more research as soon as we know the topic it may help. Unit 2 would be great to get a start. The truth is we as students sometimes tend to wait till the last minute. We know that we need to stay with this and no I do not think you should give extensions, only when there is a more serious problem such as medical issues. No our employers do not give extensions, and then students may take advantage of the situation if you gave them that opportunity. Hope that suggestion helped..
